Webmasters sometimes need to change access rights to folders and hosting files. What is it for? The ability of the folder to be changed by someone from the outside depends on the access levels. For example, in order for users to upload photos to a website or forum, you need to share the image folders.
Instructions
Step 1
The easiest option is to do it through the file manager in the hosting cPanel. First of all, you need to log in to Cpanel and select from the menu the manager that is more familiar - standard or old version without script support.
Step 2
After entering the file manager, you should select the folder, the access rights to which need to be changed. If you need to open access for photos, then this is the images folder, etc. The last right column perms shows the current access level.
Step 3
If the designations of the numbers are familiar to you, then, having selected the line with the folder, you need to click on the column with the rights, change the number and save with the save button. The numbers 777 are used to enable sharing.
Step 4
The second option is also simple - changing access by editing folder properties. Again, you need to select the desired line in the manager, and then right-click on the folder.
Step 5
A menu will open, in which, among other items, there is change permissions, which means "changing access rights." Click on this menu item. A plate will open to help you, which will tell you the designations of the numbers. The numbers themselves mean specific actions - reading, writing, executing, and depending on the number of checkmarks in front of the items - the user, the group, the whole world - will restrict or open access to this particular folder.
Step 6
The default is 755, which limits user actions on the folder. After setting the checkboxes opposite the prohibited items, the numbers will automatically change the value to 777 - this will mean general access.
