File archiving is used for more compact storage, for transporting on removable media or transferring over a network. With such storage files, the operating system and application programs can work not only as with archives, but also as with ordinary files, so the procedure for collecting them into one common archive is not very different from the usual archiving process.

Instructions

Step 1

Start your operating system's file manager. In Windows, this is Explorer, which can be opened by double-clicking on the "My Computer" shortcut on the desktop or by using the "hot keys" WIN + E. Navigate the folder tree in the left pane of the program to the directory where the archives you want to collect are stored into one file.

Step 2

Select each file to be packed. To do this, for example, click on any of them once with the left mouse button, and do the same with all the others, but holding down the CTRL key. If the required archives are located in the list as one group, then you can select the first of them, and then select the rest by pressing the right arrow key while holding down the SHIFT key.

Step 3

Right-click the highlighted group of files and select the package to archive command from the context menu. How this command will be formulated depends on the archiver program installed in the system, but the meaning should be the same - “add to archive”.

Step 4

Specify the name of the shared archive file in the program window that opens. You do not need to install any special options when archiving archives, so you can immediately click the "OK" button to start the procedure. But if necessary, you can close the created archive with a password, split it into volumes, add comment text, etc.

Step 5

You can perform the same procedure in a different way - create a new archive file (or use one of the packed ones) and drag all necessary archives into it with the left mouse button.

Step 6

Each archive, in addition to the files packed into it, also contains a certain amount of service information, which adds a certain number of additional bytes to the total weight. If reducing the total weight by a few percent is one of the important tasks of the archiving procedure, then it would be better to first unpack each archive and then repack it into one common storage file.
