The personal computer, being an extremely versatile and flexible tool, takes on more and more functions previously associated with individual devices. Today you will not surprise anyone with a "phone" call over the Internet or online faxing. Television is no exception. Today, in order to watch TV programs on a stationary computer or laptop, you just need to buy and connect a tuner to your PC.
Necessary
- - possibly an extension cable;
- - Possibly a Phillips screwdriver.
Instructions
Step 1
Turn off your computer. Use the capabilities of the graphical shell or console commands to shutdown.
Step 2
De-energize the computer if the tuner is internal. Move the switch on the back of the system unit to the inactive position. Alternatively, remove the power cord plug from the socket.
Step 3
Remove the right side cover (when viewed from the rear) of the system unit, if the tuner is built-in. Slide the plastic clips up. Unscrew the fixing screws. Pull the cover towards the back of the system unit. Then pull it up.
Step 4
Find a free tuner jack. Check the documentation for your device. Find the section describing the connection process. Get information about the type of interface through which the tuner should be connected to the computer.
If the tuner is external, then, most likely, it is connected to the USB port (devices for FireWire are less common). The built-in TV tuner, as a rule, must be placed in one of the PCI or PCI Express slots (older models can be made for AGP slots). If you are using a built-in tuner, refer to your computer motherboard documentation for the location of the correct connectors.
Step 5
Connect the tuner to your PC. If the device is external, simply connect it to the selected free connector on the computer case by directly plugging into the desired port or using an extension cable. Carefully place the internal TV tuner into the slot on the motherboard, after removing the dummy bar on the back of the PC case opposite the connector.
Step 6
Reinstall the side cover of the system unit if it was removed. Perform the opposite actions to those described in the third step.
Step 7
Supply power to the system unit. Turn the switch on the back of the PC case to the active position. Alternatively, insert the plug of the power cord into the corresponding socket.
