The cartridge of a modern printer is a fairly reliable device that, if properly used, can work properly for more than one year. Nevertheless, sometimes even a new cartridge can fail, leaving the owner with a choice - to carry the cartridge to a repair shop or try to fix it himself.

Step 1
In the overwhelming majority of cases, the cartridge can be restored on its own. First, let's look at a common problem with inkjet printer cartridges - ink drying in printheads. To dissolve it, pour vodka or alcohol into a saucer and lower the cartridges into them with the printheads down and leave for a couple of hours.
Step 2
Now take an empty syringe, pull back the plunger. Insert the syringe into the ink filling hole and clean the print head with a sharp movement of the plunger. Refill the cartridges, install them in the printer, select the cleaning mode in the settings. Run it five times, try to print the page. In case of problems, reset the printer and try again, if necessary, repeat the cleaning.
Step 3
Repairing laser printer cartridges is a bit tricky. First of all, you need to find out the type of breakdown. If the cartridge works and has enough toner in it, but smudges or streaks appear when printing, the problem is most likely in the photosensitive drum or squeegee, a soft plastic plate that removes excess toner from the drum unit. It is recommended to replace the drum unit and squeegee together. Samsung printers do not have a squeegee, but they usually have to change the metering blade. Parts such as the magnetic shaft and the primary charge shaft fail quite rarely.
Step 4
Be very careful when disassembling the cartridge. Remember, or even better, sketch the location and relative position of the parts - this will greatly help when assembling. Please note that the photoconductor unit is susceptible to strong light, so do not remove the new OPC drum from its protective packaging prematurely. Insert it into the cartridge quickly and in dim light. Handle it very carefully so as not to scratch it.
Step 5
The drum is held from the ends with pins, they will need to be pulled out. The squeegee is usually fastened with screws. The magnetic roller and the primary charge roller can be removed more easily, it is enough to gently pick them up by the tip with a thin screwdriver or awl. Carefully wipe all functional parts with a soft flannel and reinstall. Avoid touching the surfaces of the drum unit and the rollers with your fingers.
Step 6
Unused toner can be saved for later refilling the cartridge. Be sure to empty the debris compartment. Discard any toner in it. Carefully reassemble the cartridge, then gently twist the drum unit by the gear - it should not rotate too easily, but freely. It is best to evaluate its rotation before disassembling the cartridge - then it will be clear if you have not made a mistake during the assembly process.
Step 7
Install the cartridge in the printer and try printing test text. The first two or three pages may be blotted, then the print quality becomes normal. Although the cartridges vary from model to model, they are generally very similar and the same remanufacturing principles apply to them.
