Sometimes the Windows operating system stops correctly displaying Russian characters in some programs. There are also cases of unavailability of standard fonts Times New Roman, Arial, etc. The reason may be a virus or incorrect installation of some applications. You can try to solve these problems without reinstalling the OS.
Instructions
Step 1
Use the simplest method for restoring standard fonts - copy all standard fonts from your work computer with Windows OS to removable media and transfer them to the desired computer. Unfortunately, this method only works if you have a second computer and a removable disk. In real life, these conditions are not always feasible. Therefore, it is worth trying to get by with the standard Windows tools.
Step 2
Click the Start button to bring up the main system menu and go to Run to launch the command line tool.
Step 3
Enter sfc.exe / scannow in the Open field and click OK to launch the sfc.exe built-in system restore utility. The / scannow switch will ensure that the system file check is performed immediately.
Step 4
Wait for the end of the scanning process. If any inconsistencies or defects are found in any of the system files, Windows will automatically repair and continue checking.
Step 5
Insert the installation disc into your computer's disk drive when prompted “Files required for Windows to function properly must be copied to the DLL cache in the Windows File Protection dialog box and repeat the scan process by clicking Retry.
Step 6
Return to the main "Start" menu and go to the "Run" item to fix the display of incomprehensible characters instead of Russian letters when some applications are running.
Step 7
Enter regedit in the Open box and click OK to launch the Registry Editor tool.
Step 8
Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CueerntControlSet / ControlINIs / CodePage branch and open the 1252 key on the right side of the editor window.
Step 9
Enter the value c_1251.nls in the "Value" field of the "Change string parameter" window that opens and click the OK button to confirm the application of the selected changes.
Step 10
Restart your computer.
