Bad sectors appear on the hard disk mainly due to power surges, faulty connection cables, and also due to a built-in defect. You should regularly test hard drives and restore clusters in time to prevent data loss and device failure.
Necessary
installation disk with Windows
Instructions
Step 1
Boot your computer from the LiveCD, which includes programs for testing hard drives. For testing the hard drive, the Victoria program is suitable for you, for recovery - HDDRegenerator. Set the boot priority in the BIOS or open the media menu at computer startup.
Step 2
Run the Victoria program. This software is found by default on many installation distributions of the operating system. Initialize the hard drive by selecting a channel and pressing F2. It is worth paying attention to the indication of the state of the hard disk S. M. A. R. T., which the program displays. Start scanning the hard drive surface by pressing F4.
Step 3
Remember the location of the bad sectors. Winchester is scanned from the beginning, so you can navigate by time. After finishing the program run HDDRegenerator. Start scanning and recovery (HDDRegenerator will recover immediately), after specifying the sector number from which you want to start the process. After the program finishes, check the number of detected and recovered bad sectors. If you are not familiar with this software, read the corresponding instructions on the Internet.
Step 4
Only HDDRegenerator can be used, however, it is time consuming. Scanning a 250 gigabyte hard drive can take half a day. It is more convenient to indicate the place of the beginning of the scan, having learned the approximate location of the first bad sector using the Victoria program. In general, we can say that it is rather difficult to restore clusters, since several types of software must be involved, for which management skills are needed.
