The operating system registry is a database that stores absolutely all settings. Any change in one of the installed applications is always displayed in the registry files. Changes to system settings will also be reflected in the registry. If you unsuccessfully edit the registry, you can disrupt the coordinated work of the system and applications, in which case you will need to restore the system registry.
Necessary
Windows XP operating system, Regedit software
Instructions
Step 1
Why is there a system malfunction or software conflict that inaccurately modifies the registry files? There are certain rules that the developers of the operating system advise to use, but not all rules are followed by the users of the operating system. This is the only reason why there are violations or failures in the system.
Step 2
To avoid a sudden disruption of the system, and, consequently, incorrect changes to the system files, it is necessary to back up the registry files. The configuration and registry files can be found in the C: WindowsSystem32Config and C: Documents and SettingsUser folders (Ntuser.dat file). After backing up these files or even folders, they can be saved on any removable media and in the event of a system failure, these files are replaced with their copies.
Step 3
Creating a backup copy of the registry can be done using a special program "Data backup", which comes with the operating system Windows XP. To run this utility, click the "Start" menu, select the "Programs" item, from the list that opens, select the "Accessories" folder, then "System Tools". There will be several utilities inside this folder, select "Back up data". You can also start this program using the Run command: enter the ntbackup command and press the Enter key.
Step 4
The essence of the next way to back up registry files is to pre-copy the registry files. This can be done using a standard registry editor. Click the Start menu, select Run. In the window that opens, enter the regedit command and click the "OK" button.
Step 5
In the main window of the registry editor, select the required section by selecting it with the left mouse button. Right-click to open the context menu, in the list that opens, select the "Export" item and specify the path to the location where the registry files are saved.
