The need to update the firmware of hard drives may be caused by the appearance of a new version of the used firmware or by problems that have arisen. Most often, such errors, causing damage to system information, were recorded on some models of the Seagate company.
Instructions
Step 1
Determine the risk of hard drive failure. Seagate has confirmed this danger for models: - Barracuda 7200.11; - Barracuda ES.2; - DiamondMax 22; - DiamondMax SV35 The problem is an error that causes the system information of the disk in use to be destroyed at startup. On RAID arrays, this can damage multiple disks when the computer is restarted.
Step 2
Find the serial number of your hard drive on the label and open the Seagate home page. Follow the link "Knowledge Base" and click on the line "Click here to use the serial number checker". Type the saved number in the corresponding field of the verification utility dialog box that opens and enter the Captcha characters to confirm.
Step 3
Wait for the verification to complete and decide if you need a flashing. To do this, just look at the lines Result and Action. The phrase Drive is not affected means that the hard disk does not need to be flashed, and the phrase Proceed with Step 4 means that it needs to be updated.
Step 4
Download the required update image and create a disc with the required program. Connect the hard disk to be upgraded to the chipset SATA channel. Make sure that all other drives are physically disconnected and the drive being flashed is the only one.
Step 5
Use the generated firmware disc to download the update. Wait until MS-DOS, a special shell, and a file named readme open. Close this file and specify the model of the volume being updated in the directory. Confirm the execution of the selected action and wait for the process to complete.
Step 6
Please note that no further action is required and the hard disk firmware update procedure will be performed automatically. The end of the process will be signaled by the automatic shutdown of the computer.
