Step 1
Usually, the Recovery Console is used in a situation when the boot files of the Windows XP operating system have been deleted or corrupted. The NTLDR is missing message appears when the computer boots. Insert the Windows XP installation disc into the DVD drive and restart your computer by pressing the Ctrl, alt="Image" and Delete keys.
Step 2
Hold down the F8 key and in the menu that appears, select the desired DVD drive. Wait while the program prepares some of the files required to continue working. After a window containing three items appears, press the R key. The recovery console you need will open. It will contain a list of installed operating systems. Enter the number of the desired system and press the Enter key.
Step 3
Now enter the fixmbr command and press Enter again. Confirm the changes to the boot files by pressing the Y key. When the message "New Master Boot Record was successfully completed" appears, enter the fixboot command and press the Enter key. Confirm running this command. Before using the above commands, it is recommended to check the system with an antivirus program.
Step 4
If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, there are several methods to restore startup. Begin by following the steps in step two to launch the installer. Wait for the Advanced Recovery Options menu to appear and open it. Now select "Windows Command Prompt".
Step 5
Follow the algorithm described in the third step. A new feature has been added to simplify this process. Select Windows Startup Repair. The program will automatically correct the boot files required for the normal start of the operating system. If this method did not work, then use the "System Restore" function.
