The boot.ini file is present on Windows NT and XP operating systems. It includes the contents of the operating system selection menu. In addition, the contents of this file determine the boot parameters for each specific OS.

Step 1
There are several different techniques for editing the boot.ini file. First, open the My Computer menu. Turn on the display of hidden and system files. Right-click on the boot.ini file and select "Open With". Select WordPad or Notepad in the new dialog menu.

Delete or change the required lines in the working file. Be very attentive. If you set the wrong boot parameters for the operating system, you will have to use the restore function to avoid further problems.

You can also jump to the contents of the file in another way. Open the start menu. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon. Select Properties.

Click the Advanced tab. Click that Options button that belongs to the Startup and Recovery menu. Now click the "Edit" button and wait for the desired file to open.

You can use another menu to edit some lines in the boot.ini file. Press the Win + R key combination. When the new field appears, enter the msconfig command and press the Enter key.

If you want to change the operating system that will start initially, select the desired boot sector in the default line. Avoid manually changing the settings in the Boot.ini file. This can lead to problems related to incorrect loading of the operating system.
