Sometimes, to configure a specific parameter of the operating system, you may need to open and edit a registry branch. The fact is that some OS parameters cannot be changed by standard means. This can be done only by editing the system registry.
Necessary
- - Computer with Windows OS;
- - RegAlyzer program.
Instructions
Step 1
Click Start. Select All Programs, then Standard Programs. There is a "Command Line" in standard programs. Open it and enter the regedit command. In a second, the "Registry Editor" window will open.
Step 2
On the left side of the window there is a list of the main operating system registry keys. If you click on the arrow located in the main section, several subsections will open. If you know which of the keys contains the registry key you need, open it.
Step 3
In the right window of the registry editor, a list of branches of the section you have selected will appear. Click on the registry branch you need with the right mouse button. In this way, you will open it.
Step 4
If you know the name of the registry branch, but do not know in which of the sections it is located, then you can use the search. To do this, in the menu of the registry editor, click "Edit". Then select "Find" from the menu that appears. The search bar will appear.
Step 5
Enter the name of the registry branch in this line (at least approximate). Then click "Find, Next". After a few seconds, a list of registry branches that match the name you entered will appear in the right editor window. Double-click the left mouse button and the registry branch will open.
Step 6
You can also use special software to open and edit registry branches. Download the RegAlyzer program from the Internet. The utility is free. Install it on your hard drive. Run the program.
Step 7
You will see that the program is more functional than the standard registry editor that the operating system has. Using the utility menu, you can search for the desired registry branches by category. To do this, go to the desired category and search. The process of opening and editing branches is the same: double left click with the mouse, and it is open and ready to edit.
