Modern OS versions use gadgets to display beautiful digital or analog clocks, weather widgets, currency quotes, mini-games and other useful or entertaining applications on the desktop. This is a separate class of programs that are constantly present on the desktop. The user has the ability, at his discretion, to enable or disable any of them.
Necessary
Windows 7 or Vista
Instructions
Step 1
Hover your mouse over the gadget window on your desktop. At the same time, a set of icons will appear in its upper right corner, among which there will be a button that closes the gadget - as in a regular window, it is marked with a cross. Click on this icon with your mouse and the widget window will be closed. In this way, you can turn off any gadgets, both those that are installed with the operating system, and those that the user installs on their own.
Step 2
The other method applies only to gadgets from the pre-installed set of Windows desktop gadgets. There is a separate applet for managing them in the "Control Panel". Launch the panel by clicking on the "Start" button to open the main OS menu and selecting the link to this system control in the right column. Click on "Appearance and Personalization" or "Programs" - both sections have the same set of links under the heading "Desktop Gadgets". In this set, you can click on its name, on the link "Add gadgets to the desktop" or "Remove gadgets". Whatever you choose, the result will be the same - another one will appear on the screen with a set of gadgets included in the basic set of Windows. You can also call it from the context menu of the desktop - specifically for this, the item "Gadgets" is placed there.
Step 3
The list of icons of the opened Control Panel applet contains a complete set of gadgets, regardless of whether they are currently enabled. Find the icon that belongs to the gadget to be disabled and right-click on it. The pop-up context menu contains only two items, select "Delete" and the task will be solved. This is a radical disabling method, since after applying it, the icon will disappear from the set in this applet. However, it will be easy to restore it if necessary - just select the link "Restore desktop gadgets installed by Windows" in the control panel.
Step 4
The context menu of the desktop provides the ability to disable all gadgets at once. To use it, right-click the "wallpaper" and in the "View" section of the menu that opens, uncheck the line "Display desktop gadgets".
