After installing the Windows 7 operating system, many users faced an unexpected difficulty - a lack of free hard disk space. The fact is that the "Seven" takes up much more space than Windows XP.

Instructions

Step 1

There are many ways to increase the size of a local disk. In addition to standard tools, operating systems have a lot of special programs and utilities designed to work with hard drives. We will look at several different examples of resizing a local disk partition.

Step 2

Let's start, perhaps, by configuring the partition settings when installing the Windows 7 operating system. This is the most reasonable method, because it allows you to do all the operations "in one window".

Step 3

Insert the Windows 7 disc into your drive. Turn on your computer and press the F8 button. This is necessary to display the additional boot menu. Select the drive containing the installation disc and press Enter.

Step 4

The operating system setup program starts. Skip a few items of the setup menu until a window appears with a list of local drives. This is where the fun begins. You can increase the size of one of the sections in the following way: delete two sections and create new ones that differ in size from the first.

Step 5

Click the Disk Setup button. Select the partitions you want to resize and click the Delete button. Click the "Create" button and set the size of the future disk. Repeat this operation several more times (depending on the number of new partitions). Proceed with the installation of the operating system.

Step 6

To change the partition of the local disk without reinstalling the OS, we will use a special program. Install the Partition Manager utility that matches your operating system. Reboot your computer.

Step 7

Run the program. Open the "Wizards" tab and go to the "Fast reallocation of free space" item. Click "Next". Select a pair of local drives between which you want to distribute free space. Indicate their future dimensions.

Step 8

Click the "Apply" button located on the main working panel of the program. Wait for the end of the operation.
