Most users face the problem of lack of space on the hard disk of a computer. Files accumulate as you work on your computer. Sooner or later the moment comes when the old hard drive is no longer able to accommodate them. Replacing a hard drive in a regular computer is trivial, but inserting a drive into a laptop is not easy.

Necessary

  • - screwdriver;
  • - new hard drive.

Instructions

Step 1

In terms of functionality, the laptop is close to an ordinary personal computer, while it is much smaller in size. The small size means the components are densely packed, making them difficult to access. Sophisticated layout solutions used in modern laptops allow replacing most of the "peripheral" components, such as RAM, hard disk, battery, without the use of special tools.

Step 2

The laptop operating instructions usually do not describe the replacement of components. To do this, you must contact an authorized service center. For some components, such as the motherboard or matrix, this is justified. But mounting a hard drive usually doesn't require a special tool. All operations are simple enough to be performed at home. Before starting disassembly, disconnect the laptop from the mains, remove the battery.

Step 3

Examine the bottom (table-facing) surface of the laptop. Locate the cover that covers the hard drive bay. To do this, refer to the component layout in the operating instructions. Most often, the cover is fixed on one side with two bolts, and on the other there are plastic latches. Remove the hardware and remove the cover. Do not apply too much force - there may be additional fasteners somewhere. Under the top plastic cover there is a metal casing in which the hard drive is fixed. Remove the cover. Pull the hard drive away from the connector. Remove the drive from the enclosure.

Step 4

Install a new hard drive. Reassemble the laptop in reverse order. Check the laptop is working. Format the hard drive, install the operating system.
