Step 1

Try to find the original document. To do this, open the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button, and activate the Search Assistant utility by clicking the "Use Assistant" button. Specify the item "All files and folders" in the opened dialog box and type the name of the document to be restored in the corresponding field. Select the "My Computer" option in the "Where to search" directory and confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the "Find" button.

Step 2

Enter the.doc extension, which is typical for Word documents, in the line "Part of the file name or the whole file name", and click the "Find" button again if you do not remember the file name.

Step 3

Open the "Basket" desktop element by double-clicking and expand the "View" menu of the upper service panel. Specify the "Table" item and use the "Arrange icons" command. Select the sub-item "Date of deletion" and try to find the required document.

Step 4

Type the extension *.wbk in the line "Part of the file name …" to search for the saved backup copy of the file and click the "Find" button (when the "Always create backup copy" option is enabled.

Step 5

When using the autosave document function, open the Microsoft Office menu and expand the "File" menu in the upper service pane of the application window. Specify the "Open" command and the "Word Document" sub-item. Click the arrow button in the new dialog box and use the Open and Restore option to attempt to forcefully restore a closed document without saving.

Step 6

Also use the *.asd and *.tmp values in the "Part of the file name …" line to find a possible save location for the document and temporary copies.

Step 7

Expand the "File" menu of the upper service pane of the Word application window for one more attempt to forcibly restore the document and select the "Open" command. Use the "All files" option in the "Files of type" directory and find the required file in the dialog box that opens. Click the down arrow button and select Open and Repair.
