You can provide password protection for your local hard drive using the dedicated DriveCrypt Plus Pack application. One of the additional advantages of this program is the ability to create a false operating system.

Instructions

Step 1

Download and install the DriveCrypt Plus Pack, a dedicated local hard drive password protection application on your computer. Installation of the program is standard and comes down to following the wizard's prompts. The final step in the installation should be to restart your computer.

Step 2

Create a key store in the main application window and specify the desired way of storing them: in a file, in an image, in an audio file. Specify the folder for saving the keys in the next window of the wizard and enter the desired values for the master (master) and user passwords in the corresponding fields of the next dialog box.

Step 3

Use the Drives button in the main application window and specify the boot volume or partition. Confirm your choice by clicking the Bootauth button and define which password can be used to access the selected drive in the next window. Specify the path to the new boot entry and choose how to display the password protection screen. To make sure that the protection is installed correctly, reboot the system.

Step 4

Enter your chosen password when logging in and return to the main DriveCrypt Plus Pack application window. In the list, specify the local hard drive to which you want to set a password. Use the Encrypt button to open the next Encryption Wizard tool dialog box. Specify the required key by selecting it from the previously created storage. Wait for the encryption process to complete. Depending on the size of the selected volume, this procedure can take up to several hours. After that, loading the disc will only be possible if the correct password is entered.

Step 5

If you wish, you can also use the alternative Disk Password Protection program, which is compatible with Windows 98, 2000, XP and Vista, to provide password protection for your local hard drive. The functionality of the program is almost identical to that of the previous application.
