Sooner or later, you want to add variety to your usual everyday things. When working every day at a computer, you may want to change the appearance of the operating system. This can be done by changing the Windows XP Start button.
Instructions
Step 1
Information about the label on the Start button is located in the file C: / Windows / explorer.exe. To edit it, you need a special program - the resource editor. Examples of such programs are PE Module Explorer, Resource Hacker, etc.
Step 2
Copy the explorer.exe file and save the copy in the same directory. Rename it eg explorer1.exe. It is with this file that the editing procedure must be carried out.
Step 3
Start the selected resource editor. Open the file you are editing in it. To do this, select File -> Open in the program menu. In the dialog box that opens, find explorer.exe and double-click it to open it.
Step 4
After opening the file, in the left column of the program, select the String Table - 37 - 1049 branch. A field with the text for editing will appear on the right side of the screen. Find line 578 and change Start to the text you want. Then click the Compile Script button above the text box to save the result.
Step 5
After that select the branch String Table - 38 - 1049. On line 595, replace the inscription "Start" with the desired text. Click on the Compile Script button again to save the result.
Step 6
Now you need to save the edited file. To do this, select File -> Save in the program menu. Changes saved - close the program.
Step 7
Start Registry Editor. To do this, select "Start" -> "Run", in the window that opens, write regedit and click OK.
Step 8
In the editor that opens, select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows NT / CurrentVersion / Winlogon section. Double click on the Shell string parameter to edit it. Replace explorer.exe with explorer1.exe (or whatever, depending on how you named the file in the second paragraph) and click OK.
Step 9
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
