Modem connection is divided into three types: DSL - broadband connection using a telephone line, Dial up - dial-up connection using a telephone line, 3G - connection using a cellular connection. According to the above criteria, modems are also divided into three groups.
Instructions
Step 1
The DSL modem is configured via an Internet browser, by interacting directly with the device firmware. To do this, in the address bar of the browser, it is enough to type the address of the modem, by default 192.168.1.1. In the window that appears, you need to specify your username and password. The data is indicated in the instructions supplied with the modem. Next, go to the WAN tab and specify the values of the VPI, VCI parameters issued by the provider, click the button> next, in the next window also select the operating mode suggested by the Internet provider, at the end of the setup, click> save and reboot. After a while, the modem will turn on again, to check if it is responding to requests, type ping 192.168.1.1 at the command line. If everything is correct, the time in ms will be displayed.
Step 2
To configure the second type of connection in Windows, the drivers for the modem must be installed. After creating a connection, the settings indicate the city code and the phone through which the dial-up connection will be made, on the server type tab, set PPP, supported protocols: TCP / IP. You can check all the data with your provider.
Step 3
Configuring 3G modems can be done automatically using the software supplied in the kit. Or manually, for this, you must specify the access point (to be specified with the operator) and the number through which the connection will be made * 99 #. The settings of individual parameters for all types are individual, and are specified in the agreement with the provider.
