A flash drive is a very convenient, but by no means the most reliable storage medium. It happens that it can fail and in order to extract extremely important information, you need to know the type of flash drive controller.
Instructions
Step 1
Download from the Internet and install the ChipGenius program on your personal computer to find out the controller of the flash drive. This is a universal tool that will help you not only find out the type of flash drive controller, but also tell you which program to use for flashing it. After the program is installed, run it.
Step 2
Pay attention to the following feature of the program. At startup, it automatically scans all devices that are connected to your personal computer via USB ports. Therefore, to make the process of scanning the desired flash drive take less time, disconnect all devices that are not needed at the moment from the USB ports.
Step 3
Find your flash drive in the list of devices scanned by the program. Highlight this line. At the bottom of the workspace of the program, a window will appear containing all the information about this medium. Pay attention to the VID and PID fields - you will need them to determine the controller of the flash drive using the base built into ChipGenius.
Step 4
If you have not found the information you are interested in in this database, try to find an update to the program. You may have downloaded an outdated version. If that doesn't work, try other software applications.
Step 5
Download USBView or UTLite applications from the Internet. They contain the most complete database of controller types. Run them, scan the connected flash drive, set the controller type. Then download a special utility from the Internet with which you can reflash your flash drive in order to restore access to the lost information. This will not be difficult if you follow the clear recommendations of the program. If for some reason you could not reflash the flash drive, it is better to contact the specialists so as not to aggravate the situation and not to lose the information stored on it.
