Regardless of the version of the operating system, PC users often face such a problem as incorrect display of file extensions when downloading them. Because of this, it becomes impossible to open such files. The only solution to this problem is to manually change the extension.

Step 1
This problem is most common in all versions of Opera browsers. To open a recently downloaded file, go to the "Downloads" section and double-click the file with the left mouse button. If you copied the archive to your hard drive, most likely the extension will not be rar, but htm or html. To display the contents of the archive correctly, you should rename the extension.
Step 2
To do this, you need to enable the display of the extension in the settings of the system itself. Open any Windows Explorer window and notice the menu bar. If not, press the alt="Image" key on your keyboard. After that, open the top menu "Tools" and select the line "Folder Options" (in older versions of the OS, this item was called "Folder Options").
Step 3
In the window that opens, click on the "View" tab. Scroll the list of options with the mouse wheel to the very end and uncheck the option "Hide extensions for registered file types". Then click the Apply and OK buttons to close the current window.
Step 4
Navigate to the file with the "wrong" extension, right-click on it and select the "Rename" option, or press the F2 key. Now you can change the extension. It is worth noting that this operation must be approached extremely seriously, tk. an incorrectly supplied extension will render the file completely useless.
Step 5
The final result can also be obtained using special programs, for example, the file manager Total Commander. Run it, find your file on one of the open panels and right-click on it. Select Rename, or press F2 again. Change the file extension and press Enter. If you do not do this, your changes will not be saved. It is also possible to change the extension when you double-click the file header, if you keep a short time interval.
