It would seem that almost all personal computer users know how to open directories (folders), but sometimes they encounter problems in which normal opening of folders is impossible. This happens when access to a specific folder is closed or the operating system crashes.
Necessary
Standard tools of the Windows XP operating system
Instructions
Step 1
When you close access to some folders, their contents can be viewed in one of the following ways. Click the top menu "Tools" in any open window "Explorer", click "Folder Options". In the window that opens, go to the "View" tab, then uncheck the box next to the "Use simple file sharing" item.
Step 2
You can also change the access rights to directories in the Security subsection. Right-click on the folder that won't open, then select Properties. In the window that opens, go to the "Security" tab and click the "Advanced" button. In the new window, go to the "Owner" tab, then select any user who has the rights to open all directories, and check the box next to "Replace owner of subcontainers and objects".
Step 3
Sometimes some users confuse folders and shortcuts that link to the required directories. The label has a small arrow in the left corner. Some operating system customization programs allow you to remove the small arrows from the shortcut image. Thus, it is very easy to confuse the real folder and the shortcut.
Step 4
To distinguish between the folder and shortcut you need, right-click on the object, select the "Properties" item of the context menu. The "Shortcut" tab in the window that opens says that this object is not a directory, but just a link (shortcut). To find out the location of the folder, click the "Find object" button. The contents of the searched folder will appear on the screen.
Step 5
If you no longer need the shortcut that leads to the folder, you can delete it. Remember to remember the location of the folder you are looking for. To quickly delete, bypassing the trash, press the Shift + Delete keys.
