Every optical drive needs cleaning from time to time. If your drive has stopped reading information from the disk normally, errors regularly appear when trying to read it, or the drive simply does not see the inserted storage medium, then this means that it needs cleaning. Many users in such situations simply change the drive to a new one. Although it is much easier to clean it, and it can still work for quite a long time.

Necessary

  • - computer;
  • - cleaning kit (optical disc, special cleaning agent and cloth).

Instructions

Step 1

To clean your DVD-ROM, you will need to purchase a dedicated cleaning kit. This usually includes an optical disc, a special cleaning agent, and a tissue. You can buy such a set in most computer stores.

Step 2

Unpack the purchased kit. Remove the disc from the set very carefully so as not to scratch. Dab some cleaning solution on a napkin. Then gently wipe the disc surface.

Step 3

Insert the optical disc into your computer's drive. The cleaning process should start automatically. You need to wait for it to complete. Most of these discs have programs that automatically test the operation of the optical drive. Upon completion of cleaning, the operation of the drive will be checked by such a program. If the drive is cleared, a dialog box should appear in which information about the successful completion of the operation will appear. In some cases, a recommendation may appear about the need to re-clean the drive. In this case, repeat this procedure again.

Step 4

If after inserting the disc, drive cleaning does not start automatically, then most likely you have purchased a cleaning disc with which you can manually set the drive cleaning parameters. In this case, the disc menu should appear. If it doesn't, start the menu manually. To do this, go to "My Computer", right-click on the drive icon and select "Autostart".

Step 5

A menu will appear where you need to select the cleaning parameters, for example, enable or disable the drive test after cleaning it, select the degree of cleaning, etc. When all the parameters are selected, from the same menu you can start the drive cleaning process.

Step 6

When you are finished cleaning the drive, remove the cleaning disc and put it in a safe place. With these discs, you can clean the optical drive many times.
