Over time, computer software becomes obsolete, both physically and mentally. And every month (or more often) the hardware manufacturer releases software updates for their products.
Instructions
Step 1
The easiest way to update your computer's sound card driver is to let the operating system automatically find the update on the Internet, download it, and then update it. To do this, call the properties of "My Computer". On the left side of the window, find the "Device Manager" button and click on it.
Step 2
Find the tab "Sound, video and game controllers", click on the arrow next to the item. Find the name of your sound card (eg Realtek), right-click on it and select Update Drivers. Then follow the prompts of the updater.
Step 3
If you know exactly which version of the driver you need, or do not trust automatic updates, then you must find and download the driver yourself. To do this, you must know the name of your sound card (it is indicated in the "Device Manager" or in the Manual of your computer). Go to the website of the sound card manufacturer and download the new version of the driver (usually the download link is in a prominent place). Run the executable file.
Step 4
During the installation process, specify what to do with the old driver - remove or update. If you are going to uninstall the driver (the best option), you must first restart your computer and then reinstall the new one. In any case, after installing the driver, you will need to restart your computer.
Step 5
After updating the driver, the sound quality may improve, but only slightly. If you want the best sounding several times over, then you must completely replace the sound card with a better quality one. But before replacing the sound card, disassemble the computer unit, see through which connector the sound card is connected to the motherboard and through which connector power is supplied to it. All this is needed in order to buy a sound card compatible with your motherboard.
