The objects that are placed on a worksheet in an Excel workbook and used to enter, display, and calculate data are called controls. There are two kinds of controls in Microsoft Office Excel: ActiveX controls and form controls. They are similar in appearance and function, although there are some differences between them. Instructions

Step 1

Start Microsoft Office Excel and make sure the Developer tab is available to you. To do this, click the Office Button in the upper-left corner of the window and choose Excel Options from the menu. Click the General tab and find the Basic Excel Options section. Check the box "Show Developer tab on the Ribbon" with a marker and apply the new settings.

Step 2

To place a control on the worksheet, click on the "Developer" tab on the "Insert" button in the "Controls" section. The submenu expands. Select the appropriate control from the "Form Controls" or "ActiveX Controls" section. The cursor changes to a cross.

Step 3

Click with the left mouse button in the place where the selected element should be placed. When the button appears on the worksheet, you can freely move it, change its size, having previously selected it with the left mouse button.

Step 4

When you add buttons to a worksheet, they are given default names. To rename a button from the "Form controls" section, select it and double-click on it with the left mouse button. The old name will be highlighted, you can delete it and give the button your own name.

Step 5

To rename a button from the "ActiveX controls" section, right-click on it and select "Object …" from the drop-down menu (for example, "CommandButton Object") and the Edit sub-item, the button name will become available for editing.

Step 6

For further work with the button of form controls, select the required button on the sheet and click on the "Developer" tab the "Properties" button in the "Controls" section. This will open a new Properties dialog box where you can set all the required parameters. To work with an ActiveX control, double-click the placed button or click the Code View button in the "Controls" section of the "Developer" tab to open a Microsoft Visual Basic window with all the necessary properties and options.
