There are many video formats available for different purposes. The video format used in webcasting differs markedly from the format in which the movie is recorded on DVD. Videos captured with a mobile phone may not be in the format supported by the home theater. Sometimes it becomes necessary to transcode a video to a different format. This is done by programs - converters.

Necessary

A window will open with a list of available formats, grouped by category. “Audio” outputs an audio file. “DV” - video is converted to “DV” standard. “Storage” - The output is compressed files that take up little space on the hard drive. "Handheld" ("Mobile devices") - the video is converted into files with a high compression ratio for playback on devices with little RAM. “HD” - video is converted to “HD” standard. “CD / DVD” - the output is files for recording on CD or DVD discs. “Application Specific” - video is converted to formats optimized for work in video editors. “Web” - the output is a video for uploading to the Internet.

Each category contains a set of presets (ready-made settings). Click on the cross to the left of a category to see this set.

Step 4

In the “Target” tab that is currently open, click the button to the right of the “Path” item and select a location on your computer's hard drive where the recoded file will be saved.

Step 5

Click on the “Convert” button. In the opened tab, check the “Preview” checkbox. This will allow you to view the converted video. Click on the “Convert” button located under the player window. Wait for the converter to finish working.
