Archives are a cross between a folder and a file and are the result of the compilation of other files by the archiving program.

Instructions

Step 1

The archiving program is exactly what creates archives and what unpacks them. There are many such programs, but the most famous of them is the shareware WinRAR program. It works with files of popular archive formats - RAR and ZIP. Therefore, to archive files, you need to install WinRAR on your computer.

Step 2

In order to archive a file into a new archive, select the required file, right-click on it and select the "Add to archive" item in the context menu that appears. A window with the settings of the future archive will appear on the screen: its name, format, compression method, various options related to SFX-unpacking (automatic unpacking of files like a computer program), backup, password access and others.

Step 3

After the settings are made, click OK and wait for the end of the operation to create the archive. The archive will be created in the same folder as the file that you archived.

If you need to add a file to an existing archive, open the archive and drag the file you need from the desktop or another folder to the area of the archive open in WinRAR. If the file is large, it may take several minutes or seconds to write to the archive.
