Add-ons (they are also called "add-ons" from the English addon) are coming out to many favorite games users. New storylines and interactions with objects, new content or a character class - you want to try all this faster, but the question may arise where to install add-ons.
From the definition itself, it becomes clear that addons are needed in order to complement an existing game. Hence, you need to make sure that the base game is installed on your computer. Otherwise, nothing will work.
The add-ons themselves can either come out on CD or DVD-disks, or be stored as an archive of files or disk images. Make sure the add-on is ready to install. If it is written to disk, there is no problem. It is enough to insert the disc into the drive and run the installer. But if you have a disk image or archive in front of you, you will need to do some preparatory work.
Install and run the program for emulating virtual drives (Daenom Tools, Nero, Alcohol 120, and so on). Create a virtual drive and mount the disk image on it. After that, you can install the add-on as from a regular CD or DVD. If the files are packed into an archive, right-click on its icon and select the "Extract files" command.
The add-on is always installed in the base game folder. If the "Installation Wizard" did not automatically detect the correct directory, specify it yourself. To find out where the game is located on the computer, move the cursor to its shortcut and right-click on it. In the context menu, select the "Properties" item. A new dialog box will open, go to the "Shortcut" tab and look at the entry in the "Object" field. This is where the path to the game folder is indicated (for example, E: / Alan Wake / AlanWake.exe, which means "Alan Wake folder on the local drive E:").
In some cases, automatic installation is not provided. Then you need to open the folder with the base game and paste the add-on files into it. As a rule, developers set aside a separate subfolder for this called Addons. Sometimes it is necessary to correct the entries in the registry, but if you are a novice user, it is better not to do this without detailed step-by-step instructions, otherwise you may damage the system.
