To enlarge a hard disk partition, you need to use special programs designed to work with hard drives. There are a lot of such programs: Partition Logic, Parted Magic, Cute Partition Manager, Paragon Partition Manager, Acronis Disk Director and others. The program from Acronis has one of the friendliest and simplest interfaces, so let's look at how to enlarge a hard disk partition using its example.
Instructions
Step 1
The first thing to do before changing partitions is to copy all important information from your hard drive to a safe place. Of course, Acronis Disk Director has long learned to take care of user information, but once again it does not hurt to play it safe.
Step 2
You can run the program either from Windows or through installation discs, including various Live CD assemblies. The second option is even preferable, since it helps to avoid some limitations in working with hard drives on which the running operating system is installed. After starting the program, you will see in the right part of the window all disks and partitions on them, in the left part of the window - available program functions and corresponding commands. Select Increase Free Space in the Wizards box.
Step 3
Next, specify in sequence:
1) the hard disk partition to be enlarged;
2) a hard disk partition, due to which the first partition will be increased;
3) the size of the partition to be created using the corresponding slider or field with numbers.
Step 4
Confirm the intended partition structure on the hard disk, which the program will show at the end of the operation settings. Click the "Finish" button and in the main window of the program click on the finishing black and white flag. In a new window, the program will display a list of all the operations that have been configured earlier, and you will have to confirm them by clicking the "Proceed" button. After successful application of all the planned settings to the hard disk partitions, the program will report with a service message: "The operation was successful."
