The need to manually open the selected port on a computer running Windows XP may be caused by an incorrect firewall configuration. Special knowledge is not required to solve this problem, as well as the involvement of additional software.

Instructions

Step 1

Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Network Neighborhood" item to perform the procedure for opening the selected port on a computer running Windows XP. Expand the "Network tasks" link in the left part of the application window and select the "View network connections" command.

Step 2

An alternative way is to open the context menu of the "My Network Neighborhood" desktop element by right-clicking and selecting the "Properties" dialog.

Step 3

Call the context menu of the shortcut to connect to the Internet by right-clicking and selecting the "Properties" item. Go to the "Advanced" tab of the dialog box that opens and use the "Options" button. Please note that an inactive button means that all ports on the computer are already open in automatic mode.

Step 4

Click "Add" to open a new port and enter the value of the desired port name in the "Description" line. Type the value 127.0.0.1 in the line "Name or IP address of the computer …" and enter the required value in the lines "Internal port" and "External port". Note that in most cases these are the same value.

Step 5

Specify the desired option in the TCP / UDP section and confirm your choice by clicking the OK button. Use the above procedure for each port to be opened.

Step 6

In the Windows Vista operating system, a similar procedure is used, which mainly differs in the names of items and menu sections: "Start", "Control Panel", "Security" tab, "Windows Firewall", "Advanced Settings", "Permission to Run Programs …”,“Rules for Inbound Connections”,“Create Rule”and“Add Port”.
