Popular browser makers are constantly working on their programs - it is a matter of product survival in the very active market for applications for the global network. These companies use built-in browser auto-update features to deliver enhanced versions as quickly as possible. As a rule, this is convenient for the user, but there are many reasons to refuse this function. It's easy to disable it in the Opera browser.
Instructions
Step 1
After launching the application, bring up the window with its basic settings. This can be done through the menu - click on the corresponding button in the browser window to open it, go to the "Settings" section and select the top line - "General settings". If you prefer keyboard shortcuts to navigating menus, just press Ctrl + F12.
Step 2
Browser manufacturers believe that the auto-update feature is related to security settings - find the section with this name in the list placed on the "Advanced" tab of the application preferences window. After going to this section, open the drop-down list next to the inscription "Opera Updates".
Step 3
Depending on the reasons why you want to turn off auto-update, select one of the options in the list. Selecting the "Ask before installation" item will force the browser, when a new version appears on the manufacturer's server, to display a window asking if it should be downloaded and installed. Another item - "Do not check" - will leave both you and the browser in the dark about the release of future updates.
Step 4
Once you have made your selection, click OK, and Opera will accept your new instruction.
Step 5
If for some reason you do not have the opportunity to disable automatic updates by means of the browser itself, you can mislead him - replace the address at which Opera checks for new versions by putting a "stub" instead. This can be done, for example, using the hosts file. Find it in the Windows system folder at System32driversetc. You can make changes to this file using any text editor - for example, the standard Windows Notepad.

Open hosts and add this line to the end of the list of existing entries: 127.0.0.1 autoupdate.opera.com

To avoid problems with the rights to edit system objects, rename the original hosts, for example, to hosts.old, and only then save the file opened in the editor with the addition made to it.
