The longer a person uses a computer, the more he learns about it. New tasks appear, and to complete them you have to do things that you did not have to think about before. One of these actions is to turn off, in whole or in part, the Windows Sound Mixer. This must be done because conflicts may arise when installing additional software or hardware.
Necessary
Computer, sound card, mixer, basic computer skills
Instructions
Step 1
An example of such a situation would be the appearance of a constant echo when placing a microphone. It is impossible and unnecessary to physically disconnect the mixer, it is a means of controlling the sound card. Without it, the system simply won't have sound. If this is the goal, disable the sound card in the "Hardware" tab in the "Control Panel".
Step 2
If such a "drastic" shutdown is not necessary, but you just need to block some functions of the mixer, click on its icon in the lower right corner of the display. It looks like a schematic diagram of a speaker. If the operating system is Windows 7, in the drop-down window, click on the inscription "Mixer", and if Windows XP, just double-click on the icon.
Step 3
In the mixer window that opens, columns with sliders will appear, which are "tied" to certain functions. At the bottom of each of them there is an activity icon (the line "Turn off" with a check mark in Windows XP). Select the item or items you want to disable and click on the status icon, the icon will change to disable. In Windows XP, just check the boxes you want.
Step 4
If you need to cancel the changes, just repeat the steps described, and, accordingly, you will need to remove the checkmarks or bring the icons back to their original form.
