Archives are needed to store information in a compressed form. They can contain folders and files of any type. There are several ways to view such archives. The most widely used archiving programs are RAR and ZIP, and one of these applications must be installed on your computer.
Instructions
Step 1
In order to simply familiarize yourself with the contents of the archive, click on the file icon once or twice (depending on the computer settings) with the left mouse button. Alternatively, right-click on the archive file and select the "Open" command from the context menu. A new window will open. To view any file from the archive, you just need to double-click on it with the left mouse button.
Step 2
If you are going to work with files contained in the archive, it is better to unpack the selected archive. This can also be done in several ways. Open the archive as described in the previous step and click on the Extract to icon. In the additional dialog box, select a directory for saving files from the archive and click OK. Wait for the end of the operation.
Step 3
The same can be done without opening the archive. Right-click on the file's icon and select Extract files from the drop-down menu. A dialog box will open in which you can specify the desired path to save the files. Click OK and wait for the operation to complete.
Step 4
You can also unpack the archive directly into the folder in which it is currently located. Right-click on the file and select Extract Here from the context menu. If you want the files to be unpacked here, but in a separate folder, select the Extract to […] command. Unpacking will create a new folder with the same name […] as the archive.
Step 5
In order to extract one specific file from the archive, you need to open the archive, select the required file with the left mouse button and select the Commands item in the menu bar and the Extract to the specified folder command. The already familiar window will open for selecting the directory for saving the file.
Step 6
You can also use a simpler method: move the cursor to the selected file in the archive, select it. Pressing and holding the left mouse button, drag the file from the archive to the desired location, for example, to the desktop.
