Not all Windows users have come up with a useful application for informational pop-ups in the notification area (tray). Therefore, it is not surprising that the number of people who are pretty annoyed by the regularly pop-up "balloons" (Balloon Tips) has reached such a number that prompted Microsoft to attend to a solution to this problem for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Instructions
Step 1
Please use the official Microsoft patch if you want the problem to be resolved automatically. To do this, run the Microsoft Fix it 50048 application by downloading it from the direct link https://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9648693. It weighs only 636 kilobytes
Step 2
Put a mark in the checkbox with the words "I Accept" in the first window of the program that appeared after the start of its work. Then click the Next button.
Step 3
Click the "Close" button in the second and last window of the program. After that, only a dialog box will remain on the screen with a question whether it is necessary to immediately restart the computer for the changes made to take effect - select the desired option.
Step 4
All necessary changes to the Windows registry can be made without downloading and running this application. In this case, start by opening a specialized program from the operating system - the registry editor. This can be done by right-clicking on the "My Computer" shortcut on the desktop and selecting the "Registry Editor" item in the context menu. If this shortcut is not on your desktop, then press the key combination WIN + R, type regedit in the text box and press Enter.
Step 5
Go to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / Advanced branch in the left pane of the editor.
Step 6
Right-click in the right pane and select DWORD Value in the single section of the context menu (New). The application will add another one to the lines in this part of the window and immediately enable its editing so that you can specify the name of the parameter - enter EnableBalloonTips and press Enter.
Step 7
By default, the created parameter will be assigned a zero value. If for some reason this is not the case for you, then double-click this parameter, enter zero in the "Value" field and click "OK".
Step 8
Close Registry Editor. The changes will take effect after the next login.
