A common dvd format for watching videos with a player is a good thing. But, as far as editing files is concerned, it is somewhat inconvenient. To solve the problem, try converting the file to avi.

Instructions
Step 1
One of the most convenient and popular for its simplicity and versatility of programs is the Nero product. This software provides work with most of the various formats, but the main advantage of the program is that it works great with dvd. The disadvantage of Nero is that it cannot convert this format directly to avi. But when using an additional converter, the task is solved in almost a matter of minutes.
Step 2
Start the Nero program. From the main menu, select the "Photos & Videos" section, then go to the "Recode DVD Video" category. You can learn more about the properties of this option by hovering the mouse over the corresponding button. The Nero Recode application that you go to by selecting this option helps you convert the dvd file to mpeg-4 format.
Step 3
From the Recode DVD Video item, go to the Nero Recode dialog box. In the list on the right, select the "Import Video" section and place the desired video file into the project. Please note: the video must first be saved to your computer's hard drive.
Step 4
When the file appears in the program, select the "Next" item located at the bottom of the panel. To complete the work, go to the process of saving the file. In the next window, specify the destination folder for the file on one of the hard drives of the PC. Select the "Burn" option and wait for the operation to complete.
Step 5
To convert the resulting mpeg-4 video file to avi during the conversion, use any converter. For these purposes, a fairly easy-to-use program "Format Factory" will be used, capable of changing and converting various video files.
Step 6
Launch the program, select the "All in avi" item on the left, add the mpeg-4 file converted to Nero to the project. Specify the path to save the avi-file and click the "Start" button. Wait for the process to finish. Then you can start watching or working with the video. Image quality does not suffer during the two-step conversion.
