Booting a laptop from CD is sometimes necessary in case of problems with the operating system. Knowing how to do this will help restore your OS and prevent data loss.
Instructions
Step 1
For a laptop user (and indeed any PC), one of the most unpleasant situations associated with the failure of the computer to boot. It is good if two operating systems are installed on the computer, then in case of a problem with one, you can always boot from the backup, save important data and calmly start restoring the main operating system. But what if there is no second OS on the computer, and pressing F8 while booting and choosing to boot the last successful configuration does not help?
Step 2
A good, and sometimes the only, way to restore the computer without losing data is to boot the operating system using the Live CD - an operating system located on a regular CD. Such a system is a simplified version of Windows XP and allows you to get a fully functional system after loading. The Live CD can be found on the Internet, it is also present in some Windows XP assemblies common in Russia and neighboring countries - for example, in the Zver XP distribution kit.
Step 3
To boot a Live CD, you first need to choose to boot from CD, most often to do this, at the very beginning of the boot, you must press the F12 key. A menu for choosing boot options appears. You may need to enter the BIOS on your laptop to select a device to boot from. Entering the BIOS on different laptop models is also carried out in different ways, usually by pressing the Del or F2 key.
Step 4
Once in BIOS, find the BOOT tab and select CD as the primary boot device there. If there is no BOOT tab, just look for the First boot, Second boot lines - the boot devices will be indicated next to them. In the First boot line, select boot from CD, the choice can be made with the F5 and F6 keys, "+" and "-" - at the bottom of the page there are usually corresponding tips. Then save the changes, for this you usually need to press Esc to exit to the main BIOS menu, then select the Save and exit setup option. Select Yes when prompted.
Step 5
After rebooting, boot from the Live CD will start. Carefully read the labels on the screen - to boot you may be asked to press any key (Press any key). After that, the download should be successful, you will get a completely working Windows XP. With important data saved, you can start restoring your primary operating system. The easiest way is to reinstall it again, but keep in mind that many older builds of Windows XP do not see SATA drives. To install XP in this case, select the IDE emulation mode in the BIOS. Look for the lines HDD IDE, SATA native mode, AHCI mode or something similar, select the desired option and save the changes. After that, the installation of the operating system should be successful.
