Almost any modern computer is equipped with a sound subsystem. But in order for it to work, it is necessary, firstly, to configure it, and secondly, to connect headphones or speakers to the car.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure your computer has a sound subsystem. Check the motherboard for headphone and microphone jacks. If not, check to see if a separate sound card is installed. In the absence of both, purchase a sound card, and then install it in any free PCI slot on the motherboard, after turning off the power to the machine.
Step 2
In both Linux and Windows, if the version of the operating system is up-to-date, it is very likely that the sound card, both built-in and stand-alone, will be detected automatically, and no manual configuration is required. If this does not happen, configure the sound card manually.
Step 3
To manually configure your sound card in Linux, run the alsaconf program. Answer yes to all questions that appear on the screen. The script will itself determine what kind of sound card you have, and, if supported, will configure it. If there is no sound after that, check the status of the mixer - sometimes in Linux the volume is set to zero by default.
Step 4
In Windows, if the sound card is not recognized automatically, install the drivers from the disc supplied with it. If there is no disk, find out the type of card by the markings on it, and then download the appropriate drivers from the Internet. Sometimes there is no marking on the board - then ask for help from a person who is well familiar with various brands of peripheral devices for computers. You can also take a picture of the map and post it on the forum for identification.
Step 5
Use the green jack to connect headphones or speakers to the board. Remember that modern sound cards, unlike those produced in the nineties, are not equipped with powerful amplifiers. To make the sound loud, use only powered speakers with the board.
