After that, some important program is closed or it becomes impossible to use the computer and you have to restart it. Virtual memory is an area on a hard disk that temporarily stores data from RAM. This area is also called the paging file. To solve this problem, you need to make changes to the parameters of the system paging file.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the system properties of your computer. Right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop to bring up a context menu. In this menu, left-click on the "Properties" line. A window will open with a list of general information about the computer and its parameters.

In the latest versions of the operating system from Microsoft, ie Windows 7 and Vista, look in the column on the left for the link “Advanced system settings”. Follow this link. The "System Properties" window will open, in which all the parameters are configured. In Windows XP, when you go directly to the system properties window. Click the Options button in the Performance section. It's at the top of the system properties window. Another window will appear with several tabs of possible settings, by default it will be the "Visual Effects" tab. Left-click on the adjacent section with the heading "Advanced" and find the "Change" button at the bottom. This will open the virtual memory configuration dialog. It is possible to provide a solution for the size of the paging file to the system, but this is not the best option. It is better to tweak this setting manually.
Step 4
Click on the radio button next to the inscription "Specify the size" and enter the value in the two fields that are just below. The first is the minimum amount of virtual memory, the second is the maximum paging file size.
Step 5
To run the computer in the fastest mode, write the same value in both fields. For example, you have 1 gigabyte of RAM. Then set the virtual memory one and a half times more, that is, 1500 megabytes. You can check how much memory you have installed in the first properties window, which is invoked by clicking on the "My Computer" icon. Click the "Set" button, confirm the system message that you need to restart the computer to apply the settings. Then click the "OK" button and close all setting windows. Restart your computer via the Start menu.
